Fun On The Farm

Exciting Changes coming Summer 2022

Planning a summer visit? New year. New tour. 2022. Starting May 1st, 2022 we will be changing to a self-guided tour. Instead of the guide taking a limited number of people from enclosure to enclosure like we have done in the past, we will have staff posted at each animal pen and guests can travel freely…

DECEMBER ON THE REINDEER FARM

No Earthquake Damage Here Hi friends, I bet you’re wondering about that massive 7.0 earthquake we had last week.  No worries here, the  farm made it through just fine. The animals were calm and mellow right after the quake too. Only the farm dog was ill at ease directly following the earthquake. After a thorough examination of the farm there was zero damage discovered. Asking around it seems like older homes and buildings suffered a lot less damage than newer construction. Go figure! Winter Tours We are up and running, hosting our regular Winter Tours. You need to know though that those tours are almost booked up. If you want to come to the farm this month you need reservations! These must be booked in advance and you can do that here. Like I said do not wait to book a…

GUIDED HORSEBACK TOURS AT THE REINDEER FARM

Do you have company coming to the Valley? Or maybe they’ve been here for a while, and you’re looking for something unique to do with them? Or perhaps you have a birthday party coming up, and your little one loves horses? No worries the Reindeer Farm has you covered with their guided horseback rides up The Butte. Our guided tour takes you up the scenic Butte on our private trails. From the top, you can see almost the entire Valley spread beneath you. Farms, rivers, glaciers, mountains, perfect for any outside guests. And quite frankly most Alaskans are astounded at the top as well. Once you’ve had your fill of the views, you’ll ride back down to the Reindeer Farm. We host trail rides 4 times a day 7 days a week. Guided rides are scheduled as follows 10:00, 11:30, 1…

WINTER TOURS

Winter is here, sure wish we had snow though. It makes winter pass by so much smoothly and pleasantly, a little snow goes a LONG way. After Christmas, the days are still incredibly short and the nights are very long, not only does snow look pretty but it makes everything brighter, even at night. Our holiday season was busy as usual this year and after the New Year, we always look forward to resting and recuperating. We have limited tour availability after Christmas and you can book those tours right here. These tours are only booked by appointment and are held on Saturdays. Winter tours can be a wonderful way to see Reindeer in weather they truly love. These tours are usually smaller than Summer tours and can give you a more intimate feel to your tour. Not only will you…

WINTER FARM TOURS

We’ve had plenty of folks wondering IF we host farm tours in the winter. And the simple answer is yes we do. Be prepared for a different sort of tour in the winter though, read on for more information. Our Reindeer are true Arctic animals, they’re built to eat less in the winter. They live on less in the winter because they’ve adapted over the years to live where there is very little food available, the far north. Here on the farm in the summer season, you may have a crowd of Reindeer gathered around you trying to get your cup of grain but in the winter there’s just less need for them to eat. And less crowding. Of course here on the Reindeer Farm, they get all the food they could want every day they just choose to eat less….
