APRIL, MAY, GEORGE
Seems like there's a little something funky about our calendar this year! Oh wait, no those are the house babies at the Reindeer Farm, not the spring months. House babies are reindeer babies who were having a hard time outside, or with their moms, or perhaps were just too little to survive outside. One of the reasons the Reindeer farm was voted, and remains, one of the top rated attractions in the valley is the attention and care they give their animals.
If the team on the farm, ok fine MAINLY Denise, decides a reindeer baby needs intervention then it comes in the house. This is not a choice she makes lightly either. A reindeer baby IN the house requires almost around the clock feeding, attention and don't forget you suddenly have a reindeer in the house. And if you think little ones can wreak havoc on a house, wait until you meet a baby reindeer.
But its all worth in the end when folks are flocking to the farm to meet those little babies they've been seeing so much of on Facebook. It's one of the highlights of the Backyard Tour and you would be remiss in your parenting or hostess duties if you let friends and family miss this year's crop of babies, April May and George. Book a Backyard Tour today!
Have you been to the Reindeer Farm yet this year? What are you waiting for? This Top Rated Valley Attraction is just waiting to share their farm with YOU!
With summer in just about full swing everything on the farm is ready for your summer visitors. The days are getting longer as we move towards the summer solstice, these long days are perfect here on the farm. And now that school is out we've pretty much moved to our normal Summer Schedule of Tours and Back Yard Tours.
So what's NEW on the Reindeer Farm this year?
Isn't he adorbale?? He's named after a flying Yak from the Last Airbender. He doesn't fly but he's just as sweet! When you book a Backyard Tour part of the tour is getting up close and personal with Appa. So be sure to book your tour and come out and walk Appa.
You guys! The time to book a Backyard Tour is NOW. After Mother's Day the price is going up. To get in on the introductory price you have to grab your tour tickets now. You can take your tour any time later this summer but buying them in advance locks in the low price.
When you book a Backyard Tour you are getting a super sneak peek at farm life beyond the tour, in a small group setting.
As most of you know we've been closed all of April. We give our new moms and their babies time to bond before we open the doors on the summer season. Plus April on a farm in Alaska is a mucky mess. May is quickly approaching and with it our 2018 Summer Season.
I know what you're thinking, it's too early to book a tour. But guess what??
It isn't too early! In fact it's the perfect time to secure your tour time slot before the rush. You can purchase your tours ahead of time on our handy online ticketing system and save yourself any last minute worries about missing out on a tour.
We have some changes coming to the tour itself as well. Why change something that works so well?
Only to make it better, I promise!
Did you see the news? Are you following The Reindeer Farm on Facebook? You should be! The 2018 babies are starting to show up.
As we mentioned in our previous post the Reindeer Farm is closed for all of April. The break is for two reasons.
Join us in May for regular tours, our booking system is up and running and ready to take your reservations. If you are looking for group tours for any school groups it's time to get those booked as well. It's best to book those early and make sure you're in the system.
In the mean time check out our gorgeous new babies being updated daily on our facebook page.
Hello Friends of the Reindeer Farm! We're expecting babies any day now. Follow us on Facebook if you'd like updates on Baby Watch 2018. We'll be sharing there often as babies come along. Join us!
For now we've got just a few tour dates left until we close for the month of April. You can find those final tours in our online reservation system if you're interested. They're filling up fast so get in if you want in. We close so that we can concentrate on our new moms and their babies. We like to focus on them, make sure everyone is safe, comfortable and happy before we host tours again. Plus it's breakup in Alaska and it's just a muddy time to be on a farm. Especially a farm at the foot of the Butte, we get a lot of runoff.
We will be open once again in May and school tours are being booked now. If you're interested in a group or school tour it's time to plan now. And regular tours resume then as well. You can book everything through our online reservation system. Join us on Facebook for a look at the new babies OR join us in May.

We're talking ALL things Reindeer THIS Sunday at Turkey Red. Join us for an informative evening of discussion as we discuss all things related to owning reindeer. The meeting starts a 6pm in the meeting room behind Turkey Red, which will be closed.
IT'S IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT WE WILL NOT HAVE REINDEER AT THIS MEETING.
Our tentative schedule looks like this:
We'll have current Reindeer owners on hand to answer your questions. Plus Greg Finstad of UAF's Reindeer Research Program will also be on hand to present information on calving and what to keep in your baby backpack.
There will be ample opportunities to get all your questions answered. You'll make connections with other people who are new to the process as well. This is a great place to network and find someone else just starting out too.
If you need directions you can find them by typing in the address to Turkey Red in your maps app on your phone. That address is 550 S Alaska St, Palmer, AK 99645.
Winter is here, sure wish we had snow though. It makes winter pass by so much smoothly and pleasantly, a little snow goes a LONG way. After Christmas the days are still incredibly short and the nights are very long, not only does snow look pretty but it makes everything brighter, even at night. Our holiday season was busy as usual this year and after the New Year we always look forward to resting and recuperating.
We have limited tour availability after Christmas and you can book those tours right here. These tours are only booked by appointment and are held on Saturdays. Winter tours can be a wonderful way to see Reindeer in weather they truly love. These tours are usually smaller than Summer tours and can give you a more intimate feel to your tour. Not only will you see Reindeer but you can see Rocky the Moose and Dolly the Bison.
If you're going to come for a Winter Tour please remember a few things:
So even while we're resting up for another busy season you can still come out and visit, we'd love to see you!
My name is Denise Hardy. I run our family Reindeer Farm in Palmer, Alaska!
